Lovely 19th century box from Colonial Ceylon, circa 1870. The box is made of gorgeous and expensive coromandel wood with ribbed and flowing sides. The interior of the lid is inlaid with bone or faux ivory in a flower star pattern. The central medallion is a hand painted flower with bone hand painted leaves extending out in all directions creating a star like effect. The central medallion is set inside 2 circles made of bone, silver or pewter and ebony, stunning craftsmanship !! It has its original hinges and working lock with key
